City got to the championship game by winning two thrillers that came down to the final seconds. In the opening round of the tournament on Friday, the Knights went to three overtime periods before finally getting past Cypress, 116-113. The Knights had the final shots at the end of regulation and the first two overtimes, but were unsuccessful in each of those attempts. In the third overtime, the Knights held a one point lead with seven seconds left when Howard found Iglehart for a fast break layup to give them a 116-113 lead. Cypress' Julius Von Hanzlik got off a long 3-point attempt, but it caromed off the rim and the Knights prevailed.
The next night, Cuesta tied the Knights at 77-77 with 11 seconds left after a layup by Khirey Carson. The Knights used a time out to set up a play and it was Iglehart, once again, with the clutch play. He took the inbound pass, drove through the lane and made an off-balance layup with 2.4 left to put the Knights ahead for good. Cuesta's Kenny Robinson launched a shot from mid-court, but it was off and the Knights celebrated the victory that put them in the title game for the second straight year.
In the championship game on Sunday night, Mt. San Jacinto jumped out to an 11-1 lead after making five of their first six shots. The Knights eventually recovered and got back to within one point at 24-23 midway through the first half, but the Eagles responded with a 17-5 run to go up 41-28. Mt. San Jacinto added to that lead and went into the half with a 53-36 lead.
SDCC had trouble combining points and defensive stops in the second half until it was too late. The Knights were down by 20 with 4:17 remaining when they finally got things going with a 20-4 run to cut the deficit to 91-86, but there were only 29 seconds left on the clock. Mt. San Jacinto's Dwayne Benjamin made all four of his free throw attempts down the stretch to hold off the late surge by the Knights and the Eagles went on to win the game, 95-89, and the tournament.
Montreal Harris led the Eagles to the victory with 27 points and was named tournament MVP. Benjamin had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
City's Iglehart, who averaged 18 points and six rebounds during the weekend was selected to the All-Tournament Team along with Anthony Poindexter, who averaged 17 points and seven rebounds.
Citrus, who had won the tournament the previous five years, won the consolation bracket championship and had two players in Terrell Todd and Kerry Carter that were selected to the All-Tournament Team. College of Sequoias won third place with Bill Borekambi being selected to the All-Tournament Team.
