The Knights knocked off the No. 3 Saddleback Gauchos, 69-68, in the championship game of the Bill Brummel Classic at Saddleback College. Trevor English, who finished with 22 points and four rebounds, was named MVP of the tournament.
The Knights got to the title game by defeating Irvine Valley, 70-64, and Long Beach City, 59-56. Devyn Iglehart led the way for the Knights in the opening round victory over Irvine Valley with 22 points. Anthony Poindexter added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
English led the way for the Knights in the win over Long Beach City with 15 points and seven rebounds. Bren Haley had 10 points.
In the final against Saddleback, the Knights looked like they were in complete control of the game with a 64-50 lead with 2:13 left to play, but Saddleback made the Knights sweat it out after a 16-3 run cut the Knights' lead to one point with :50 left. Iglehart made a pair of free throws to put the Knights up 69-66 and Saddleback was unable to convert on two three-point attempts that would've tied the game. Josh Smith made a layup for the Gauchos, but time expired and the Knights were victorious.
English had a game-high 22 points in the win over Saddleback. Poindexter, who made the All-Tournament Team along with English, finished with 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. Iglehart added 14 points.
