KNIGHTS PULL AWAY IN 2ND HALF TO DEFEAT IVC, 69-54
The Knights, who were coming off a close 72-69 win at Grossmont on Wednesday, played their conference home-opener on Friday and earned a 69-54 victory over Imperial Valley after pulling away in the second half. Kyle Anderson had 14 points and seven rebounds while Anthony Poindexter chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds off the bench.
The game was tied, 18-18, with 7:18 left in the first half, but that's when the Knights began to separate themselves from Imperial Valley as they used 14-4 run to close out the half with a 32-22 lead.
The Arabs, who were led by Levar Gamble's 12 points off the bench, got back to within six points midway through the second half, but the Knights pulled away for good after three consecutive 3-pointers extended their lead to 58-43 with 6:58 left. English made the first and Poindexter follwed with two straight from 3-point land.
The Knights went ahead by as many as 19 points and did not allow IVC to get any closer than 14. SDCC held the Arabs to 40% from the floor while shooting 43.3% themselves.
SDCC improved to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in the PCAC. The Knights travel to Mira Costa on Wednesday and host Palomar next Friday.
