FORMER KNIGHTS PLAYING ABROAD
The San Diego City College men's basketball program has had a lot of success in recent years under Head Coach Mitch Charlens with a state championship in 2017, a state final appearance in 2018, and three straight PCAC South titles (2016-18), but one of his greatest accomplishments has been to help many of his student-athletes transfer to 4-year schools.
The San Diego City College men's basketball program has had a lot of success in recent years under Head Coach Mitch Charlens with a state championship in 2017, a state final appearance in 2018, and three straight PCAC South titles (2016-18), but one of his greatest accomplishments has been to help many of his student-athletes transfer to 4-year schools.
Several of those former Knights have gone on to become professional basketball players, including Malcolm Thomas, who helped the team reach the Elite Eight in 2009, and Alex Wilbourn, who played a key role on the 2017 state championship team.
Thomas currently plays for Khimki in Russia while Wilbourn is with Lugano Tigers in Switzerland. Other former Knights playing abroad include Carlton Coleman (Bolivia), Stacey Lambert (Ireland), Menas Stephens (Italy), Anthony Calhoun (Spain), and Spencer Mattox.
