Torres With a Brace in 4th Straight Win

The Knights extended their win streak to four and their unbeaten streak to six after shutting out Saddleback, 2-0, with Alexander Torres scoring a brace and goalkeeper Diego Garcia saving the only two shots on goal.

Torres, who leads the Knights in scoring, put in what ended up being the winning goal in the 31st minute off an assist from William Lugo.

San Diego City was on the front foot for most of the first half and outshot Saddleback 7-1.

The first 30 minutes of the second half went scoreless, but Torres added an insurance goal in the 76th minute, his fifth of the season, with Mateja Hadzibabic providing the assist. Torres has now scored in each of the last four games to help City earn its longest win streak since 2019.

Goalkeeper Diego Garcia stopped two shots to earn his first shutout of the season and the sixth of his career. 

Friday's game was the Knights' seventh consecutive away game. They have one more at Long Beach City on Tuesday (5 p.m.) before finally playing their first home game next Friday against last year's state champion Cuyamaca at 3:30 p.m.
