The Knights turned Tuesday's home game into a goal fest as they put in four goals in each half to rout Southwestern, 8-3, with Danny Mckelliget and Jamesley Exantus each scoring twice.
San Diego City (6-2-4, 2-1-1 PCAC) came into Tuesday's contest having struggled in the previous two games, a 2-1 home loss to Mesa and a 2-2 draw at Imperial Valley, but they got back in the win column with an impressive offensive performance against Southwestern.
The scoring barrage began in the 23rd minute when Alexander Torres put in a cross from Exantus to give City a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, the Knights countered off a Southwestern corner kick with Mateja Hadzibabic sending a long ball to Mckelliget on the right side, who then took a couple touches to freeze a defender and fired in a shot to the far post from 18 yards out.
In the 30th minute, Mckelliget took a corner kick and found Edgar Garcia near the far post for an easy goal that put City ahead 3-0.
Southwestern got one back in the 40th minute, but the Knights answered with a fourth goal just before the halftime whistle.
Garcia took a loose ball after a corner kick and dribbled into the box from the left side where he dished it off to Shea Balelo who made a run down the middle for another tap-in.
Southwestern scored another eight minutes into the second half, but City responded seconds after the kickoff with a goal by Exantus. A give-and-go by Torres and Hadzibabic led to Torres' assist to Exantus on the left side to give the Knights a 5-2 lead.
The Jaguars kept fighting back and got within two once again with their third goal in the 60th minute.
But City put the game away after Mckelliget and Exantus scored back-to-back goals in the 63rd and 64th minutes.
Adam Neto added City's eighth goal in the 80th minute after Balelo took the ball away from Southwestern's goalkeeper.
The Knights moved up to third in the PCAC standings with Tuesday's win and will host first-place Palomar on Friday at 3 p.m.
