The San Diego City College women's basketball team will play its first home game of the new season on Friday, November 16 at 6 p.m. against Porterville in the opening round of the 2018 Knights' Colbert Classic.
The Knights are off to their best start since the program was reinstated in 2006 after winning two-of-three games at the season-opening Pasadena tournament last weekend.
City started that tournament with a 61-54 victory over Citrus and then blew out Desert, 66-45. The Knights fell to Pasadena, 64-39, but it was still a very successful weekend for them.
Breeana Gafare averaged 21.3 points over the three games and scored a career-high 30 points to go with 10 rebounds in the win over Desert on Saturday. As a result, she was named to the all-tournament team.
The Knights, led by Head Coach Andrea Aguilar-Montalban, are coming off an undefeated (8-0) PCAC South season which earned them a second consecutive conference championship. The PCAC Sports Information Directors recently picked the Knights to win a third straight conference title.
The Colbert Classic will begin on Friday with Cerritos and MiraCosta tipping off the tournament at noon. The 8-team tournament will also feature Cuesta vs. Southwestern at 2 p.m. and Los Angeles Harbor vs. Imperial Valley at 4 p.m.
The tournament will conclude with the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Admission will be $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, students with I.D., and children under 12. Kids aged 5 and under will be admitted for free.
