The Knights snapped a 3-game losing streak on Tuesday by holding on for a 2-1 home victory over Grossmont with goals from Juliette Salgado Garcia and Bree Ortega. City improved to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the PCAC.
Both teams combined for 12 shots in the first half, but neither was able to find the back of the net until the final minute of the first half when Salgado Garcia was awarded a penalty kick after being fouled by a Grossmont defender inside the box near the goal line.
She fired the PK to the right side where Grossmont's keeper was able to get her finger tips on the ball, but Salgado's shot was too strong and hit the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
The Grossmont Griffins committed another mistake in the 63rd minute when their keeper picked up a backpass from one of her teammates, which set up an indirect free kick from 10 yards out.
Christiana Macias gave a light tap towards Ortega who blasted her shot over the heads of all the defenders and goalkeeper and into the net to put City ahead by two goals.
Grossmont got back in it with a free kick goal from Emily Guerra that was too high for City goalkeeper Ximena Flores' outstretched arm.
The Griffins took one more shot on target a minute after that goal, but Flores was able to stop it and the Knights hung on for the much-needed win.
The Knights will play the next four on the road beginning with Friday's game at Palomar at 1 p.m.
