San Diego City's women's cross country ran at the state championship meet as a team for the first time in 32 years and finished in 16th place with Sofya Chernyak and Isabelle Dalton leading the way as the top two finishers for the Knights.
For the first time since 1989, the San Diego City College women's cross country team is headed to the state championship meet after qualifying with a 13th place finish at the Southern California regional championship on Friday with freshmen Sofya Chernyak and Isabelle Dalton leading the way.
Yesenia Huerta, Isabelle Dalton, and Calysta Lopez all finished in the top-11 to earn all-conference honors and help the Knights secure second place at Friday's PCAC championship, their best conference finish since 1989.
The San Diego City College women's cross country team faced its stiffest competition on Friday at the San Diego Mesa Invite with a total of 13 teams participating in the race and the Knights were able to grab sixth place after being led by freshman Sofya Chernyak and sophomore Yesenia Huerta.
In their second meet of the season, the San Diego City's women's cross country team earned third place at their own Coach Downey Classic, held at Morley Field, with freshman Sofya Chernyak as the Knights' fastest runner with a time of 21:15 and a 12th place finish.
