KNIGHTS EARN NO. 1 SEED IN POSTSEASON; CHARLENS & MCCOY NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR AND MVP

The defending state champion Knights have earned the top seed in the South as well as a first round bye and are set to host a second round playoff on Saturday, February 24 at 7 p.m.

City will play the winner of the first round game between Long Beach City and Palomar that will be played on Wednesday night. General admission to Saturday's CCCAA tournament game will be $12 for adults and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years of age. 

The Knights are fresh of their third straight PCAC South championship will go into Saturday's playoff riding a 22-game win streak, the longest in school history. They have won 16 consecutive home games over the last two seasons and are 46-2 since January 4, 2017. 

Those two losses last November to Fullerton and Citrus came by a total of three points. 

In addition to the No. 1 seed, the Knights also earned several honors from the PCAC. Mitch Charlens was named PCAC South Coach of the Year for the seventh time in 14 seasons and Robert McCoy was selected as the conference's Most Valuable Player. 

Wonder Smith and Ethan Esposito were selected to the All-PCAC South first team, while Darius lee and Robert Taylor were chosen to the second team. 

Luis Salgado, Trevor Drake, Isaac Davis, Joseph Riley, and Adrian Byrd-Jelinek were given honorable mention. 

Charlens has led the Knights to a state championship, seven conference titles, and has reached the 20-win mark seven times. The Knights have now qualified for the playoffs in each of the last five seasons and in six of the last seven. 

McCoy, who helped lead the Knights to the state title last year along with Smith, Taylor, and Lee, averaged team-highs in points (16.6), rebounds (7.7), and blocks (1.5). 

He had eight double-doubles this season and scored over 30 points twice. McCoy poured in a career-high 32 points in an 82-65 road win at Southwestern on February 9.
